How to Record Your Screen with Canvas Studio
This article will demonstrate how you can record your computer screen using Canvas Studio. We recommend using the Google Chrome or Edge browser as those don't require additional installations to record your screen.
Step 1:
Open Canvas Studio. There are a few ways you can do this:
Option 1: The Studio button in Canvas Global Navigation.

Option 2: The Studio button in the text editor.

Option 3: The Studio button in a Canvas assignment.

Step 2:
- Click the + Create button.
- Choose Studio Capture.

Step 3:
- Your web browser may ask you for permission to use your microphone and camera. For most web browsers you can check the access by clicking the icon that appears in front of the website url at the top.
- Once clicked choose Allow access options for Camera and Microphone.

Step 4:
- In the Studio Capture pop-up you will see the current capture screen (most likely your webcam) and 4 buttons. These allow you to enable/disable your Webcam, Microphone, and Screen Capture; the last button is to Start your recording.
- To enable Screen Capture, click Screen Capture and then click Enable.

Step 5:
- After clicking Enable, a pop-up will appear asking you what you want to share with Studio. You can choose between a specific tab in your browser, a specific window/application on your computer, or your entire computer screen.
- In this example I'm choosing to share a specific window. You would click Window, then the application you want to share (PowerPoint).
- Next you can enable System Audio if you want to capture audio from your computer as well as your microphone.
- Finally click "Share".

Step 6:
Now we can see that Studio is ready to record our screen. Click Start Recording when you are ready to start your recording. There will be a 3 second countdown before the recording starts.

Step 7:
After the recording starts your Canvas window will show that screen recording is in progress with buttons to Cancel, Pause, or Finish Recording.

Step 8:
- When you click Finish Recording you have the opportunity to name your recording and Save the recording.
- You also have the option to Start Over if you are unhappy with the recording; you can always delete a recording after Saving as well.

Step 9:
- You are back to where you first clicked "Canvas Studio".
- Your recording is now in your Canvas Studio library.
- You can submit it by clicking "Submit Assignment" in the lower right corner.

Done! You have submitted your video to the instructor. ✔️
