How to Test the Connection to the Snowflake Driver for State Employees Accessing the Warehouse
These instructions explain how to test the connection to Snowflake ODBC driver to use with the Commonwealth Information Warehouse (CIW). The screenshots are from Windows 11.
To install the Snowflake driver, grab the installation file from //srv-casper/Software/CIW Snowflake Driver 2025 and put it on a flash drive. The install is a standard, "accept all defaults" affair.

OK, now we're ready to configure and test the driver and it's connection.
1.) In the search box at the bottom of the screen, type ODBC. Look for the “ODBC Data Sources (64-bit)”. Click Open.

2.) The ODBC Administrator box opens to default tab “User DSN”. Click Add.

3.) Create New Data Source window opens. Look for SnowflakeDSIIDriver. Click Finish.

4.) Snowflake Configuration Dialog Setup window opens.

5.) Enter the information below in the Snowflake Configuration Dialog fields. (I have attached a Notepad doc to this article with the criteria in it if you want to copy it to your flash for quicker copy/paste).
- Enter coma-tss_ciw_prd_ad in the Data Source box.
- Enter users (FIRSTNAME.LASTNAME@bristolcc) email in the USER field box.
- Do NOT Enter anything in the Password field box. Leave blank.
- Copy and paste “coma-tss_ciw_prd.privatelink.snowflakecomputing.com” into the Server field box.
- Enter WAREHOUSE_VIEW into the Database field box.
- Enter DBO into the Schema field box.
- Do NOT Enter anything in the Warehouse field box. Leave blank.
- Do not enter anything in the Role field box. Leave blank.
- Enter 0 into the Tracing (0-6) field box.
- Enter EXTERNALBROWSER into the Authenticator field box.
- Do not enter anything into the Proxy field box. Leave blank.
- Do not enter anything into the NoProxy field box. Leave blank.
- Click “OK” at the bottom to add the new data source.

6.) ODBC Data Source Administrator (64-Bit) window opens. You successfully added the new data source. Double click on the new data source (the Snowflake DSII Driver) to open the dialog box again.

7.) Have the user connect to the Ivanti VPN and make sure the connection is active. Click “Test” to test the connection.

8.) A browser window will open and the message “Your identify was confirmed and propagated to Snowflake ODBC driver” will display. You can close the browser window by clicking the "x" on the window tab.

9.) Test Results window opens - Success message appears. Click Ok to close.

If the test is not successful, make sure you are connected to the Ivanti VPN and try again.

You can also check in with John Malloy to see if he has any suggestions. We had some issues with the initial install and it was related to a SAML error on their end. The email address they have on file is usually incorrect and needs to be changed on their end.
