How to install a printer
This article explains how to install a network printer. It applies to all users.

Before You Begin
- You will need to know the name of the printer or the room it's located in
- Close all Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, and Outlook) before you begin. This allows Microsoft programs to correctly configure page settings during installation

Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Open File Explorer
Select the File Explorer icon (the manilla folder icon) in the taskbar at the bottom of your screen.
Step 2: Go to the print server
In the File Explorer search bar, type \\srv-printing and press Enter. This opens the list of available printer installations.
Step 3: Find and install your printer
Locate the printer that matches your room number. Printer names correspond to their room location (for example, a printer in room G126 would be named PRT-G126-1-B). The printer name can also be found on a white label on the printer itself. Double-click the printer to begin installation.
Step 4: Confirm the printer installed
A window will open showing the printer queue, confirming the printer installed successfully.

Troubleshooting
I don't know my printer's name
What it means: Printer names are not always obvious from the room alone.
What to do:
- Check the white label on the physical printer for its name
- Match the room number in the printer name to your location
I get an error when I try to print
What it means: Microsoft applications that were open during installation may not have correctly configured page settings.
What to do:
- Close all Microsoft applications
- Reopen the item you are trying to print and try again
