Introduction
This application note explains how to configure a web-browser to print to a Star Desktop printer for most web-based POS applications. The steps in this article are meant to be used when printing receipts from a web-based software and the potential errors that result when these settings are not adjusted.

Before you begin
Important! Ensure that the printer is installed, configured and working.
Please use the Help Center FAQ search if you have not yet setup your printer.
Note: The default paper size for most printers is 3” (72mm) with a few exceptions such as the mC-Print2 which is 2” (58mm). If you are selecting a smaller size, ensure you have installed the paper guide.
Please visit the Star Global Support Site to download the manual for your specific printer which provides more details on installing a paper guide.
Windows
Note: These instructions were written using 3” (72mm) as the default paper size.
Google Chrome
1. Open Google Chrome and click the three dots in the upper right of the browser to access the menu. Select “Print”.

2. Ensure your Star printer has been selected and click “More Settings”.

3. Change the following:
Note: 72mm x Receipt is used in this example.
Paper size: Preferred size
Margins: None
Headers and footers: Unchecked (if visible)

4. Perform a test print from your POS application. If the settings are still not to your liking, please contact your POS to receive assistance with configuring your receipts.
Congratulations! You successfully configured the margins and paper size on Google Chrome.
Microsoft Edge
1. Open Microsoft Edge and click the three dots in the upper right of the browser to access the menu. Select “Print”.

2. Ensure your Star printer has been selected and click “More settings”.


3. Change the following:
Note: 72mm x Receipt is used in this example.
Paper size: Preferred size
Margins: None
Headers and footers: Off (if visible)


4. Perform a test print from your POS application. If the settings are still not to your liking, please contact your POS to receive assistance with configuring your receipts.
Congratulations! You successfully configured the margins and paper size on Microsoft Edge.
Mozilla Firefox
1. Open Mozilla Firefox and click on the three lines in the upper right of the browser to access the menu. Select “Print”.

2. Ensure your Star printer has been selected and click “More Settings”.

3. Change the following:

Paper size: Preferred size
Margins: None
Print headers and footers: Uncheck

4. Perform a test print from your POS application. If the settings are still not to your liking, please contact your POS to receive assistance with configuring your receipts.
Congratulations! You successfully configured the margins and paper size on Mozilla Firefox.
Internet Explorer
1. Open Internet Explorer and press the ALT key on the keyboard to open the taskbar at the top. Click “File” and select “Page Setup”.

2. Change the following then click “OK”:

Paper size: Preferred size
Left Margin: 0
Right Margin: 0
Headers and Footers: Empty

3. Perform a test print from your POS application. If the settings are still not to your liking, please contact your POS to receive assistance with configuring your receipts.
Congratulations! You successfully configured the margins and paper size on Internet Explorer.
MacOS
Note: These instructions were written using 3” (72mm) as the default paper size.
Safari
1. Open Safari and click “File” in the top taskbar. Select “Print”.

2. Ensure your Star printer has been selected and click “Show Details”.

3. Open the Presets dropdown menu and select “Save Current Settings as Preset”. Give it a name and click “OK”.


4. Change the following:
Note: 72mm x 200 is used in this example.
Paper Size: Preferred size
Print headers and footers: Uncheck

5. Perform a test print from your POS application. If the settings are still not to your liking, please contact your POS to receive assistance with configuring your receipts.
Congratulations! You successfully configured the margins and paper size on Safari.
