For more or specific information or to view the extensive chart on roles and their permissions please visit the Zoom Support Website
Below you will find information pertaining to Alternate vs Co-host within Zoom. While they may sound similar in their use case, they have very different use cases. We will also briefly talk about Host role as well.
Hosts – This is the user that scheduled the meeting. They will have full permission to manage the meeting. There can only be one Host per meeting.
Co-host – Shares most of the controls that the host has, allowing the co-host to manage the administrative side of the meeting, such as managing attendees. The host must assign a co-host during the meeting. Co-hosts cannot be assigned ahead of time. Co-hosts cannot start a meeting. If a host needs someone else to start the meeting, they can assign an Alternate host. During breakout rooms Co-hosts now have the same breakout room controls as the meeting host
Alternate Host – Share the same controls as a Co-host, however they can start the meeting. Hosts can assign alternative hosts when they schedule the meeting.
